Policy constraints and supervision have become stricter, and the solid waste disposal rate has risen slightly

In 2019, 196 large and medium-sized cities produced 1.38 billion tons of general industrial solid waste, 850 million tons of comprehensive utilization, 310 million tons of disposal, 360 million tons of storage, and 42 thousand tons of dumping. The comprehensive utilization of general industrial solid waste accounted for 55.9% of the total utilization, disposal and storage, and disposal and storage accounted for 20.4% and 23.6% respectively. Comprehensive utilization is still the main way to deal with general industrial solid waste. General industrial solid waste has been effectively used and disposed of.

Solid waste imports declined

Statistics show that my country’s solid waste imports have increased sharply since the 1990s. Between 1995 and 2016, Chinas annual waste imports soared from 4.5 million tons to more than 48 million tons. Take 2010 as an example, the country imported more than 48 million tons of solid waste, valued at more than 30 billion U.S. dollars. In 2012, the value of imported solid waste reached approximately US$40 billion. With the gradual implementation of the plan to ban the import of solid waste, the volume of solid waste imports has dropped significantly. As of November 15, the total volume of solid waste imports nationwide was 7.18 million tons, a decrease of 41% year-on-year.
